Folger Presents All-Shakespeare, Fiasco, Too

Folger Theatre Folger Shakespeare Library logoIn celebration of William Shakespeare's 450th birthday year, the Folger is presenting an all-Shakespeare lineup of plays, including two productions from New York's Fiasco Theater. The year will also feature a major exhibition, "Shakespeare at Home."

The season will open October 15 with Romeo and Juliet directed by Aaron Posner. Erin Weaver has been tapped to play Juliet, and Eric Hissom is set to play Friar Lawrence. The production is scheduled to run to Dec. 1.

It will be followed by Richard III, directed by Robert Richmond. His directed Henry V this year set box office records for the theater. Richard III will run from Jan. 28–March 9.

The final production of the subscription series will be The Two Gentlemen of Verona, April 17–May 25, mounted by Fiasco Theater. This will be the debut performance of this play from the company that has been lauded for its ability to bring Shakespeare's most whimsical tales to the stage in unique formats. Its staging of Cymbeline was one of the hottest tickets in New York.

That very Cymbeline is the bonus production for the Folger 2013–2014 season. Fiasco Theater will present it for a limited run beginning May 28.
