Performance Aims to Reintroduce
Shakespeare to Adults in Fun Way

Making its world premiere at The Maryland Shakespeare Festival in Frederick, This Strange Eventful History: Shakespeare across Generations is intended to entice adults to an appreciation of William Shakespeare.

Maryland Shakespeare Festival logoThis Strange Eventful History is an exploration of the generation gap through Shakespeare's greatest characters. The piece contains information about Shakespeare, his family, and the historical circumstances around the staging of his plays as well as scenes from several of his works. Four actors from the MSF bring to light many interesting facts about Shakespeare, and breathe life into many of Shakespeare's most interesting characters.

This Strange Eventful History was intended specifically to reintroduce adults to Shakespeare in a nonthreatening way. The lasting memory for many adults is being force-fed his works in high school; so much has changed, however. in how Shakespeare is treated in school curriculums today.

This performance will educate and entertain audiences of all ages with its perfect blend of fact and fiction. The performance will be appealing to families, church groups, literary clubs, retirement communities, schools, and more. The piece was designed to be performed in various venues, including someone's living room, with minimal scenery and lighting.

This project was made possible through a research grant from Goucher College.

This Strange Eventful History performances will be at the All Saints' Episcopal Church in downtown Frederick, 106 W. Church St.,Friday, March 15 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 17 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m. Tickets are Pay-What-You-Can with a suggested donation of $15.
