Associate Offers Voice/Movement Workshops

New York Classical Theatre Associate Artist Joan Melton is offering two classical workshops for professional actors, singers, and dancers on April 28 focusing on classical theater.

Session I, from 10 a.m.–1 p.m., is an introduction to verse, scansion, and the physicality of language. Session II, 2–5 p.m., will cover movement-based work with voice and text (including monologues) focusing on range, resonance, articulation, and phrasing. Tuition is $80 per session or $150 for both.

Melton is a pioneer in the integration of singing techniques and voice/movement training for the actor and is the author of two major textbooks, One Voice: Integrating Singing and Theatre Voice Techniques (2nd Ed, Waveland 2012), with Kenneth Tom, Ph.D., and Singing in Musical Theatre: The Training of Singers and Actors (Allworth 2007). She trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, London, holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and has bachelor's and master's degrees in music from the University of Mississippi, Oxford.

She has been a performer, vocal coach or musical director on productions in virtually all media, from daytime television to musical theater, from new music premiers to panoramic theatre that New York Classical Theatre specializes in.
